Applied Perception is leading a program to enhance the Foster-Miller TALON™ to be able to perform standoff explosive detection. To accomplish this, an explosive detection sensor built by Photon Systems will be integrated onto the TALON™. In order to provide the most effective solution for the customer, the operator simply defines scanning boundaries and our software will pan and scan the Photon sensor to provide full area coverage.

Communication with the TALON™ mounted Photon sensor will be fully JAUS-compliant and therefore be controllable via custom interfaces within the Solider Universal Robotic Controller (SURC) Operator Control Unit (OCU). Using these interfaces, the Photon sensor will provide the operator with the data necessary to determine whether the scanned object poses a potential threat to the area.
