Decontamination

The SkunkWorks Robotic Decontamination program is designed to provide a capability for the U.S. Army’s Maneuver Support Center (MANSCEN) to evaluate the effectiveness of robotic decontamination of various ground vehicles from chemical, nuclear, or biological agents. The program will develop a system to effectively wash, scrub, apply decontaminant solution, and validate the removal of any contaminant on the vehicle. API will develop the necessary manipulator for washing and scrubbing, and integrate the Photon TUCBE sensor for validation onto the TAGS-CX-2 vehicle. MANSCEN Soldiers will conduct field experiments in the spring of 2009 for evaluation of the system, hoping to provide insight for improving the current Army decontamination process.
